Make Your Own Wine
Mountain Vista Winery, is pleased to announce its 2017 home winemaking events & grape purchase opportunities!
Whether you are an experienced home winemaker or wanting to learn, you’ll have a great time producing, bottling, and labeling your own home wine(s) with the benefit of expert, knowledgeable, and award-winning direction/assistance. An important part of our winery’s mission, which is very different than most any existing winery within our region, is to assist home winemakers and prospective home winemakers. We can provide all that you need to make your own custom, premium home wine(s) at our historic facility or at your own home! And, if you just want to purchase premium wine grapes for your own use, you can do that, too!
It’s up to the Grapes!
Unfortunately, we can’t yet give you an exact date for each of our forthcoming home winemaking events. Why? Because the grapes tell us when they are ready for harvest, we don’t tell them. Therefore, this far out, we can only estimate harvest time, as various varietals in their various regions are harvested at different times in the fall. We will be lucky if we can set the actual event dates two weeks out. Therefore, we can give you a “window” to mark your calendar and ensure that you are around when the events take place. As soon as we can confirm the actual date, we will put out another announcement.
In the meantime, here are the windows, expected varietals, etc. so that you can start planning:
We expect to have our first home winemaker event and grape purchase pick-up to take place on either Saturday, September 2nd, or Saturday, September 9th. We plan to have Chardonnay from the Lodi AVA and Petite Sirah and Barbera from the Sierra Foothills AVA.
Our second home winemaker event and grape purchase pick-up will take place on either on Saturday, September 30th, or Saturday, October 7th. We plan to have Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Sirah, all from the Lodi AVA. You can also make White Zinfandel (sweet) from the red Zinfandel grapes.
Cost Per Bottle
The cost of home winemaking at our facility will be $17 per 750ml finished bottle of premium home wine and/or $10 per 375ml bottle. Our Wine Club members will enjoy a 10% discount. In addition to the standard winemaking materials, you may also opt to choose add-ons such as custom aging in oak barrels and/or bottling in specialty bottles.
It’s All Your Own
You might ask, why would I spend $17 on a bottle of wine when I can buy a lesser priced bottle of wine at the store? Well, the custom, premium home wine that you produce at our winery facility is yours! You created it to the extent you participated in its crush, destemming, fermentation, and pressing, and to the extent you made the decisions on how it was aged and bottled. Your wine (or wines) will bear your personal and custom label(s). Your own custom home wine(s) can be given by you as a gift to friends and family and/or enjoyed by you for your own consumption.
BOTTOM LINE: This is something you can’t buy in a store for any price!
Make a Reservation
While you can just show up on the day of the event and choose the type(s) and amount of grapes you would like to make into wine, it would be in your best interest to make your request in advance. While we expect to have plenty of fruit to go around, once it is gone, it is gone, and it could all be gone before the event happens. So make your reservation as soon as possible so that you don’t miss out!
Please email your request to HomeWineMaking@MountainVistaWinery.com. A $25 non-refundable deposit will be required for all reservations. Final payment will be due at the event.
Don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to having A LOT of fun with you at this event. We will make this opportunity as festive as possible, including helping you plan your own “crush party” if you wish. We will accept orders right up to the night before the winemaking event, to the extent fruit is available, or you can take a chance by just walking in that day. Please contact George Walker at 909-560-7834 for more information.
